DR - Taxes/Raiding of Miofell Village

Image result for roman raid

The Port of Satamas wealth and power had grown to significantly over recent months. Many a Remas regiment had come to the port looking for gold, little chance of that Tilean after the wars...

With little need for they service, Legate Lutum was forced to make sure he could pay his troops before they turned on him. He was going to "tax" the local communities and 1) show his worth to the leadership of Satamas 2) pay his men!

We used the scenario from Lion Rampant Tax collection and I had rolled previous on the old Mighty Empires (ME) book to know what my opponent would be facing!  The side were 12pts villagers vs 24pts of Remas

The Village of Miofell to the South of Satama was the first village proved any resistance. Methyn Mose was a veteran warrior used to holding the fells about his home against raiding fimir and in recent times the undead. He rallied his warriors, organised the villagers and even managed to get the old crazy "shaman" to some muttering about a wing demon....

Legate Lutum spots Methyn Moss tho the fog and rain!

The villagers take the farm, knowing the fences and hedges would hamper any attackers. Collecting value processions en route and taking advantage of the foul weather hammering the land (reduced attacked ranges)!

The Remas Infantry attempt to shift Mose warriors but they defensive  position and organised attacks (Mose had the ability to auto pass an attack role)

Some natives scouts, assumingly known to the villagers as Mose attempts to engage in combat but suffer additional loses and decided it was time to leave the field. (Not until dispatching some of  Lutums centurions (elite foot))

The villagers attempted to safe they village, but soon lost stomach for the battle after Mose and his men were forced to leave.

The shaman (I seemed to have lost any photos of him in action) while this was occurring went about the village collecting everything he knew about and gathering from the others en route. He managed to bag 4 items before leaving the field without failing a single order!

The final score was 9-12,
The game was interesting, tho Remas has more unit, it seemed to hampered they progress and effectiveness, Moses men with the ability to auto attack really made them the keystone in the force, Heavy offensive Foot behind cover really are a tough nut to attack and be attacked constantly by!

Tho Methyn failed a courage test, we rolled on the ME character survival table for his fate, which proved that he indeed will return!

So the fate of Miofell Village was to be burnt to the ground, however Legate Lutum may have made a powerful nemesis today....

DR - Tomb Raiders (Guest Summary)

Far to the South pass the Citadel of Lead (and of our normal campaign) is the area known Neuland this setting was used for an introduction game to a new player to DR!

In a small hamlet on the outskirts of Neuland, rumours began to surface of strange apparitions in the night centered around the cemetery. Further rumour speculated that the hamlet housed clues to one of the lost books of Nagash.

A young undead countess with 3 hordes of zombies at her command, resurrected elven bowmen and direwolves hoped to gather these clues before the locals were aware of what was happening.

However their presence was not undetected, a cohort of Knights escorting a newly forged cannon were in the vicinity, and they were diverted to the Hamlet to stop the countess and seize or destroy the clues.

The undead arrive nearest to the graveyard (where else?)

The knights of the Empire take the initiative, and begin ransacking the run down dwellings, desperate to find the clues.

The knights continue to surge into the Hamlet whilst the undead dwindle, - no one was supposed to know they were there…

Finally the hordes spring into unlife, the countess directs her direwolves and poisoned zombies down the centre, to occupy the two contingents of knights heading straight for her..

“They’re coming right for us!”

Unfazed by the direwolves or zombie threat, Lord der Matthias takes matters into his own hands with a vicious charge, slaying two of the beasts, but receiving a scar for his efforts.

The horde on the Countesses left flank make for the cemetery, surely a clue or two would be found amounts the tombstones and crypts.

The countess moves her forced to block off der Matthias with poisonous zombies and makes ready to charge.

A volley from the undead archers sees one of der Matthias personal guards slain. The attach is then pressed by the last remaining direwolf, who is impaled on a lance for its trouble.

Who will feel the countesses wrath?

Its der Matthias!

… and he is slain, but his trop hold their nerve, as on their right flank the artillery has the horsed within range and the countess has placed herself in a prime position for a Reiksguard charge...

Zombies mein herr, creeping through cemetery! Meanwhile the Reiksguard put an end to the Countess and her poisonous zombie horde collapses, it’s magic undone.

Cannon unleashed! The cemetery is pelted by hot iron, and a few zombies are blasted into smithereens!

For der Matthias!!!!!!

More gunfire lights up the cemetery.

A final charge by the knights sees the remainder of the right flank horde reduced to half strength.

In the end the Countess was only able to secure 3 clues while the Empire took 6, which they then destroyed. The undead crumbled back into nothingness.

With both leaders dead (again in some cases) and the undead defeated will we ever learn what the undead was looking for!

Two Tribes go to War - Albion DR campaign (Guest Summary)

So part of this campaign is for other players to go off and write/play they own games and filter it back
to myself to keep a record. Here is the first of those types of games!

Bronwyn is dead. Captured and killed at the hands of the Skaven. But something was amiss. During battle she had been noticeably weakened. Upon escaping the Skaven and hearing their murmurings  Lugg was able to make out that, she was “not for eating” as she was “nasty nasty tainted meat”

After several minutes and quite a few headaches, Lugg put the pieces together, Bronwyn had been poisoned! But by who?

Bronwyn had been chieftain of a reasonable sized piece of land in the North of Albion, several outlawed men from Neuland as well as descendants of Erikson's raids and Remas’s lost legion had put aside their differences and placed their faith in their chieftain. With Bronwyn and her brothers slain, no one was there to hold the fragile peace, and the two most powerful bands sought to control the land and a “democratic” process of determining the new chieftain was set.

Then Lugg returned with the news… and the only possible way to resolve her absence and appoint a new leader, conflict. The rich and cunning descendants of Erikson (also the prime suspect as although their lands were the richest but had very little in the way of potential expansion) challenged the other contender, the Neuland People’s Front, to decide who would usurp Bronwyn, and claim dominion over her lands. Although better equipped, Erikson was short on numbers, so roped in some nearby horseman from a local tribe, for a fee. Lugg however, had vanished without trace.

The NPF has skilled archers who had accompanied Bronwyn on previous campaigns and also bore witness to her capture by the Skaven, as such their will was not as formidable as their aim....

The attacking Erikson placed his formidable raiders in the centre, flanked on the left by spearmen from the lost legion of Remus and on the right by his elite bodyguard and the “hired help”

The NPF, with their skilled yet “sensitive” archers on the left, spearmen to the centre and heavy foot and wardogs to the rear, relied on the woodland to their right to provide some respite from the cavalry heavy enemy.

The warbands advance, NPF have some confusion in their ranks and fail to advance in time with one another.

Erikson's raiders numbers are reduced following a volley form the Neuland Outlaw band of archers. Both sides knew to secure the cover offered by the wall in the centre of the battlefield, and although sacrificing numbers in attempt to get their first, Erikson knew his men would soon be backed up by elite cavalry.

Tally ho!

What's that coming from the woods sir? The, elite riders, seeking to flank the NPF were soon set on by their leaders war dogs, who had been hiding in the woods until the scent of the enemy hit their fuzzy little snootumz. Aww doggies.

The riders are forced back and must regroup.

The lost legion falter after another volley from the skilled NPF archers
The leader of the NPF, see off a charge by the elite riders, but fails to hold firm and retreats, their war dogs wiped out by the unit of mercenary cavalrymen.

The knights, were prone and vulnerable, but Erikson's riders failed to press their advantage and amid the confusion, his raiders remained in cover, instead of firing off a volley.

Battered by enemy fire, and after losing their position holding the central waal, the NPF spearmen are battered and fails to rally, they leave the skirmish to rekindle their numbers and fight another day.

Despite seeing off a charge from the lost legion of Remus and wiping them from the field of battle, the outlaws can see that the outcome isn't looking good, and take to the woods.

With no units left, the knights concede defeat. Their fate undecided...

All that remains is to see how Erikson leadership of the old Kingdom of McDeath will affect the region!

A bloody game of DR - Bronwyn's Grave

Battle of Bronwyn Grave
After the battle of potjie pot stones, chieftain bronwyn attempted to lead the skaven army to an ambush site among the ruins of some forgotten kingdom.
Weather was poor, a gale and rain had been hammering Bronwyn and her forces position for hours. Eventually the rats appeared on the horizon... but not in marching formation...
Before Bronwyn was able to call back part of her forces (ie the baiting units) and reposition her forces the skaven struck and gutter runner appeared among her army... obviously the rats scouts had tracked them down to here.
Bronwyns brothers took the initiative, then centre enraged at the ambush failing and held it for the majority of the battle. Defeating the skaven leader in combat and forcing the rest to flee before them. This however wasn't enough and one by one each bother wounded, fell back.
Bronwyn and Lud seeing a weakened but sizable skaven force, charged the remaining rat slaying many in her path and allowing her people to escape.
Eventually exhausted and her horses slain, she stood upon her chariot and challenged the remaining rats.. shorty afterwards her battlecry stopped and her final fate was to unfold
Lud retales of hours of torture and finally her gruesome execution upon the ruin and the cheers and laughter of the rats.... but best not talk further of that!
